Archbishop Daniel Visits Teenage Conference Encampment

The second session of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Camping Ministry, Teenage Conference, convened at All Saints Camp from July 8-21, 2018 forging into yet another year of spiritual success! Campers and staff joined together in the spirit of Pascha "CHRIST IS RISEN! INDEED HE IS RISEN" - the TC 2018 theme.

The theme was woven throughout the fabric of the program from workshops, to games to the Ukie Olympics. Who is Christ? Where do we meet Him? What does this mean for salvation? These questions and more were explored, discussed and expanded upon. The camp welcomed various guest speakers, who thoroughly engaged their audience with workshops related to the theme as well as interactive Hot Topics sessions with the spiritual fathers of the encampment (Very Rev. Fr. John Harvey; Very Rev. Fr. Bohdan Hladio, Fr. Philip Harendza and Fr. Volodymyr Yavorskyi).

With the blessing of the Council of Bishops of the UOC of the USA, the campers were blessed to learn and experience the full cycle of Pascha services, reflecting upon their liturgical and spiritual meaning. Moreover, the campers learned about the traditional ethnic Ukrainian traditions associated with the Brightest Feast of Pascha – the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Many new games and activities excited and delighted the campers including electric garbage can, family photo night, capture the flag, early morning fishing, sunrise walk, the Sci-Fi dance, Moonlight Prayer Walk Trail and a wedding shower for our staff getting married! While old favorites such as Ukrainian Night, Skit Night, Basketball Tournament, and TC Unplugged were some of the best in years.

On Saturday morning, July 21st – His Eminence Archbishop Daniel, accompanied by Hieromonk Sophroniy, Fr. Myron Korostil and Seminarian Yaroslav Bilohan arrived to All Saints Camp for a day of spiritual reflection and conversation with the campers.

Being welcomed with a traditional Morning Prayers chants by the campers and counselor of the Camp, Vladyka Daniel spoke to the participants of Teenage Conference about the importance of experiencing PASCHA – the Christ is Risen moment, in a daily routine through CHOICES – a decision making process in a life of a Christian who strives for perfection. In conclusion, greeting the campers on behalf of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, Vladyka Daniel gifted everyone in attendance a memorable cross on a necklace.

As a formal photo with His Eminence Archbishop Daniel was taken, and final farewell expressed my the campers and staff members of Teenage Conference Encampment a prayerful song "Christ is Risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!" was chanted by parents, campers and the volunteers of All Saints Camp.

Teenage Conference is a program for teenagers 13 -18 and will take place next year at All Saints Camp in Emlenton, PA. For more information contact the Office of Youth & Young Adult Ministry at uocyouth@aol.com or www.uocyouth.org
