In the midst of the unfolding crisis of COVID-19 pandemic, inspiring stories of caring, responsive service and kindness are coming in from people across the country and local communities, showing their gratitude for those that continue to provide the basic services that protect and care for human life.

As people drive by the entrance to the Spiritual Center/Metropolia of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA in South Bound Brook/Somerset, NJ they notice that the property is not filled with visitors and parishioners as it used to be but two banners stand in their place. "THANK YOU COVID-19 FRONTLINE WARRIORS: Risking Your Lives to Serve Ours" the banners reads, referring the essential workers on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.

While the parish communities of the UOC of the USA have been able to stream important services over Facebook live to reach parishioners on Sundays and holidays, the transition to social distancing has been tough for many people who are relying on their Holy Faith to bring comfort in an uncertain time. His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, Prime Hierarch of the UOC of the USA states that “…the Church is doing all it can for the local community, but also in across the continental USA. The banners are just one of the ways the church is learning to adapt to a new normal and connect with faithful of the Church and the community from a distance.”

Archbishop Daniel, talking to Mr. Petro Rydyy – property manager of the Metropolia Center, while installing the banners of gratitude, stated “…COVID-19 does not define who we are. Our Faith in the Risen Lord is what encourages us. In this time of our common struggle, we are trying to show gratitude – whether it's the banner on the front of our Memorial Church or the project with the Salt Foundation ,providing food for those in need, or the work with the youth of our Church - we are trying to do all that we can with great gratitude and great love of Christ."
