Saint Andrew’s Society is an integral organization of faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA. dedicated to supporting:
- the spiritual rebirth of the people of Ukraine;
- the establishment of universal principles of justice, charity and tolerance;
- the re-establishment of churches and religious organizations in Ukraine;
- the rebirth of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ukraine as a unified Kyivan Patriachate.
Since 1990, the year of founding, the Society has provided humanitarian assistance to the needy and financial and technical assistance to the Theological Schools in Ukraine. The Society also publishes religious literature.
Since the inception of the organization, St. Andrew’s has maintained soup kitchens for the poor, elderly and handicapped. The Society organizes and finances St. Nicholas programs for orphans throughout Ukraine.
St. Andrew’s Society has published or provided funds for Liturgical books, including Festal Minea, Trebnyk (Book of Needs), and a Children’s Prayer Book, all of which have been disseminated to the faithful, seminarians or parishes at no cost to the recipients. For the Seminaries and the Theological Academies, the Society has purchased copiers and computers, and through the Society, seminarians have received scholarships for their studies.
Recently, St. Andrew’s Society raised $100,000 for the restoration of the historic St. Michael’s Cathedral (the Golden Domed) and Monastery in central Kyiv. This church had been destroyed by order of Josef Stalin in the 1930s. This complex has become a symbol of the rebirth of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church after decades of persecution.
During the last three active years of assisting the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, the Society has donated $271,000 to the various programs initiated or sponsored in Ukraine.
Any person of the Orthodox Faith may become a member of St. Andrew’s Society and join together in helping the Church in Need as the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ukraine is re-established!
